Mt. Everest aims to tackle a poop problem.

Mt. Everest is in deep… you know what.

Ang Tshering, the chief of Nepal’s mountaineering association, told the Associated Press that the mountain's more than 700 annual climbers have been causing a poop problem. The growing issue is threatening to cause disease and pollution.

With no bathrooms or porta-potties, “Climbers usually dig holes in the snow for their toilet use and leave the human waste there,” Tshering told the Associated Press. But with only four primary camps, the mountain hot-spots have been the popular place to dump dump for decades... Which has caused a major poo pile-up.

Although the Nepal government has not come up with a clear plan to fix the problem, they imposed a rule last year that mandates that each climber must bring down 18 pounds of trash (the average amount of garbage each climber will generate on their treck) with them. They'll lose their $4,000 deposit if they choose not to comply.

The mountaineering season in Nepal is in full swing (it runs from March through May) and the issue has yet to be "cleaned up".
