If you like big butts and you cannot lie, we have some good news.
Cosmetic procedures involving butt lifts or implants are rising dramatically, according to a new report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Buttock lifts skyrocketed by a staggering 252% between 2000 and 2015—and increased 36% between 2014 and 2015 alone, according to the report. (It didn't specify whether the procedures were done on women or men, but judging by Instagram, we'll thank the ladies for this one.)
Buttock augmentation—also known as the "Brazilian butt lift," a nickname that may inspire you to finally book that vacation to Rio—can be done two ways: implants, transferring existing body fat to the butt, or a combination of both, according to the ASPS.
"While more traditional facial procedures and breast augmentations are still among the most popular, we're seeing much more diversity in the areas of the body patients are choosing to address," ASPS president Dr. David H. Song said in a press release.
And then there's breast reduction—where things get even more surprising. According to the ASPS release, there were roughly 68,000 breast reduction procedures performed in the U.S. in 2015, and for the first time ever, men accounted for over 40 percent of those surgeries.
“As plastic surgery is becoming more common and accepted in men, we’re seeing more of them undergo procedures to tighten and tone problem areas, like the breasts,” said Dr. Song. “This procedure is often done in younger men who face genetic challenges with the size and shape of their breasts, and when appropriate, surgery can make a big difference in their lives."
Again: Men who seek breast reduction surgery typically do so for genetic reasons. But if you're feeling insecure about your man-boobs, don't worry—we've got you covered with The Man-Boob Elimination Workout.
If your girlfriend brings up the idea of getting plastic surgery, we've got a primer on how to respond to that, too. But just remember: Squats are your (and her) best friend.
